Hello! If you plan on riding at the resort at all, we'd recommend going the TTS + plastic boot route. If you happened to be committed to the 3-pin, you could pick up a 3-pin cable binding for a bit more downhill stability (cables can always be removed while touring). That said, we still would recommend the TTS for extended time spent cruising around on groomers. As for the Endeavor, we'd absolutely recommend that ski for what you're looking to do. It's not a guarantee or inevitability that those things will happen with a duckbill. Lots of old duckbills with worn out soles, worn out leather, or so old that the midsole deteriorates, but no cracking or separating of the duckbill. However the Alpina Alaska is notorious for experiencing those issues you listed.

Being a new dealer, we cannot speak from experience as to the long-term durability of either Alaska boot, but we acknowledge your comments. Our survey of some industry vets and our own short-term experience led us to believe that the Alaska 75 is a comfortable entry level boot for new and casual users. For more frequent users we'd suggest you also look at the Crispi Svartisen 75 mated with the Voile HD 3-Pin or 3-Pin Cable.

These are Dynafit ST Rotation touring bindings with a toe piece that locks into the front pins of the boot for skinning and skiing. I believe Marker Jester bindings are made just for downhill alpine riding. Hope that helps!

Hello! Turn initiation is definitely easier on the V-series (V8) which makes me want to say it's a bit more knee-friendly. Much easier to smear out the tails. Hope that helps!

Mounting binding is an art and it is best to mount the bindings with the boots you intend to use.: Check RUclips. There must be instructions on how to mount 3-pin Telemark bindings. If not, I will make one.

Yep. Until that better, lighter, (and hopefully better matched binding to bellows fex) NTN boot comes around I'll just keep skiing/touring on the old trad system.

Could you use a "speed touring" (i.e. not telemark-specific) boot with this binding? (like a Dynafit Mezzalama (875g in 26), or similar)? In terms of interfacing the binding it should be fine, even at the heel. In terms of retaining the ability to use telemark turns, the boots wouldn't have any flex at the front of the boot (like with the Scarpa in the video) but would it matter? Isn't that flexible bit an artefact of the old 75mm bindings? As long as you get the proper activity and stiffness when lifting the heel you should be ok, no?

@@audetnicolas Interesting thought, but no- you need a flexible soul like a bellows-equipped boot (or the old-school leather kind) to make a true Telemark turn. Currently the best boots for the Transit bindings are the ones Scarpa quit making about a decade ago: The bellows-equipped F1, F3/Defender. If you can score one of those in your size, it would be the perfect match. For comparison, F1s of that era weight half what the Telemark-specific TX-Pro (the boot shown in the video) weigh of similar-size.

I own a pair of orange F3, and they great, but only for skiing in resorts. For the kind of backcountry touring we do in the North-East, they are way too heavy and downhill-focused. I wish I could have pair of plastic boots around 1kg. I suppose I could go for a 75mm setup with a T4 but even those are about 1.5kgs each (and I am not a bit fan of the low cuff). I have the feeling that having some flex around the ball of the foot is an artefact / habit from the 75mm days. As long as you have the proper activity and resistance when you lift your heel, you can shift the weight on the rear ski whether or not the boot flexes like a telemark boot. Maybe it involves a change of technique or habit, but for boots that are half the weight, I would be very curious to give it a try.

It's going to depend on the specific boot you have. Regarding leather boots, the main thing to keep in mind is the thickness of the duckbill. Who could ask for more?Well maybe a trip to the Bugaboos in British Columbia, and a trip to El Chaten to ski tour un under er the Fitzroy Massif,of Patagonia.

Curtl1694 I had the same concern. I got on them this past spring and had no issues. These actually wanted to climb up out of the snow. I haven't used them is dry powder just a heavy late spring dump. But they worked really well then.

Absolutely! This ski replaces the Paulownia core that's in the Objective with the damp Poplar core that's found in all of our "non-hyper" skis. From an AT perspective, the Endeavor gives you a lightweight backcountry-specific ski that's more robust when it comes to the downhill. You'd be sacrificing some weight compared to the Objective, but we think that could be worth it for those who often find themselves in technical terrain and variable conditions.

It's an old Scarpa TX/Terminator X. Pretty sure this boot was made in the early 2010s.

The pucks used in this video are canted. That said, this video also applies to non-canted pucks since they're adjusted the same way. Hope that helps!
